Siraha police have arrested suspects involved in two separate shooting incidents and stated that investigations are ongoing. Police said one incident involved a contract killing, while the other was linked to a family dispute in which an Indian shooter was allegedly hired.

1) Accused Arrested in Fatal Shooting Case

On Magh 16, 2082 (Nepali calendar), at around noon, Premnath Yadav was shot dead by unidentified individuals in a bamboo grove located in Siraha Municipality–7. Following the incident, police formed a special investigation team under the command of a Police Inspector and began a detailed investigation.

During the investigation, one bullet shell was recovered from the crime scene. Police analyzed BTS data, CDRs of around 80 individuals, conducted interrogations, prepared incident reports, and carried out polygraph tests on six people. The investigation was conducted with support from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Province Police Office Birgunj, and Madhesh Province Police Office Janakpurdham.

With assistance from Indian police, investigators suspected the involvement of Indian criminals and analyzed suspicious mobile numbers. Three individuals, including one Indian national, were detained for questioning.

Police later identified the involvement of the victim’s neighbor and former teacher, Upendra Yadav, who has since been arrested. According to police, he admitted his involvement during the preliminary statement.

Police stated that Upendra Yadav had been under mental stress due to a family dispute and long-standing rivalry with the victim’s family for the past four years. Seeking revenge, he allegedly hired Indian criminals for NPR 300,000 to carry out the murder. Investigation revealed that NPR 100,000 had already been paid in advance, while NPR 200,000 was yet to be paid.

Police said the identities of other Indian suspects involved have been established, and search and arrest operations are underway. Upendra Yadav has been remanded for five days by the Siraha District Court under a murder charge for further investigation.

2) Accused Arrested in Attempted Murder Shooting Case

On Magh 4, 2082, at around 11:50 PM, priest Shyam Sundar Sharma was shot while sleeping inside the Jitiya Temple in Aurahi Rural Municipality–5, Siraha. He sustained a serious gunshot injury to the back of his head.

According to preliminary police investigation, local resident Hari Thakur allegedly hired an Indian shooter for NPR 50,000 due to a family dispute, with the intention of killing the priest.

Police said further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
